Concept of Hydrotherapy

The word 'hydrotherapy' is
derived from the Greek meaning 'water healing'. Its history can be traced
back many thousands of years and modern day benefits of hydrotherapy are
becoming more widely appreciated. Hydrotherapy allows impact free therapeutic
exercise so recovery can start much earlier following surgery or injury.
The combination of warmth, hydrostatic pressure and buoyancy help to promote
circulation which aids healing. The pressure of the water can have an anti-inflammatory
effect, relieving pain and reducing swelling.
Being active members of the Canine Hydrotherapy Association means that we can
only swim dogs by veterinary referral only. This practice ensures that your dog
is in a fit, clinical state to undergo hydrotherapy. Most Pet Insurance companies
will pay for hydrotherapy sessions if prescribed by your veterinary surgeon. |
